Managing Conflict Inside the Organization

Organizations today incur enormous costs because of conflict within their own walls. Conflicts can erupt – or fester for years, draining resources and morale – because of incompatible goals, differing assumptions and perceptions, and varying values and incentives.

Often, differences are a function of the professional roles that people are asked to play – roles that, in principle, are important to the organization but which create tension among teams and individuals. CBI’s two-day course on “Managing Conflict Inside the Organization” focuses on how to (1) diagnose sources of conflict, (2) mobilize the “three circles” of stakeholders, (3) discover underlying interests, (4) use contingent commitments to overcome uncertainty about the future, and (5) “package” draft agreements in order to break impasses and meet pressing organizational goals.
