Frank E. A. Sander

Frank E. A. Sander, Esq., who was born in Stuttgart, Germany in 1927, came to the United States in 1940 and later served in the U.S. Army. He graduated from Brookline (MA) High School, Harvard College and Harvard Law School, where he was treasurer of the Harvard Law Review. From 1952 to 1953, he was law clerk to Chief Judge Calvert Magruder of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and, during the Supreme Court‚s October Term 1953, he was a law clerk to Associate Justice Felix Frankfurter. Mr. Sander subsequently was an attorney in the Tax Division of the U.S. Department of Justice and then in private law practice in Boston. Between 1959 and 2006, Mr. Sander served in various appointments at Harvard Law School, including Assistant Professor of Law, Professor of Law, Walter E. Meyer Research Professor, Bussey Professor of Law, and Associate Dean.

Since 1976, Professor Sander has specialized in dispute resolution, particularly as it relates to the use of alternative processes (such as mediation and arbitration) to the courts. He has written and lectured here and in many other countries, and has received a number of awards for his work in dispute resolution.
